Research in the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences spans a wide range of areas, including plant and animal biology, biomedical science, cell and molecular biology, conservation and the environment. The quality and impact of our research has been reflected in the UK government’s latest Research Excellence Framework, where the majority of our research was judged to be world leading or international excellent.
We offer a number of flexible research degree opportunities including MSc by research, MPhil, PhD and PhD by published work. As well as part-time and full-time study options, we advertise a number of studentships each year.
Our long-standing reputation for research excellence is underpinned by expert supervision from internationally-recognised staff and comprehensive research skills training. There are many opportunities to interact with students across a variety of disciplines and from different institutions at our research forums, research students symposium and research lecture for example.
